The L'Oreal e-Strat Challenge

Attracted by a flyer, handed out by our marketing professor Dr. Mangold, Stephan, Bernd and I decided to apply for a worldwide marketing simulation.

400 out of 600 applying teams were selected based on a qualifying quiz. 210 teams stayed in the competition till the end, under them students from universities like Harvard, Stanford, Kellog, Chicago, Oxford, or Cambridge. As 6th in the overall ranking, we finished as best German team and second in the U.S..

We were able to triple the stock price of our beauty product company in our market with four other competitors. These were managed by the computer.

L'Oreal USA wanted to meet with the 6 best ranked U.S. teams and invited us therefore to New York, where the L'Oreal headquarter is located. They invited is in the newest luxury hotel in Manhattan and impressed us with a reception in their building on the 5th Avenue. We could meet the CEO, Vice-President Human Resources, Marketing Directors and many other very interesting people. All in all, it was a unique and fantastic experience.
