"Easily visible from the waterfront is Alcatraz Island. This former prison was used to hold those who had wreaked too much havoc in other prisons, including famous prisoners like Al Capone and 'Machine Gun' Kelly. Of the 23 men who attempted to escaped, all were recaptured or killed, except for 5 who were 'presumed drowned' although their bodies were never found."
